During a festive ceremony held on October 5, Ambassador Dr. Cyrill Jean Nunn handed over the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ambassador Dr. Badr Abdelatti in appreciation of his efforts in developing and promoting the bilateral relations between Germany and Egypt during his tenure as Egypt's ambassador to Berlin from 2015 to 2019.

In his speech Ambassador Dr. Nunn recalled the numerous bilateral achievements made in various fields such as politics, economy, education and culture, during Ambassador Dr. Abdelatti’s time in Germany. He also thanked Ambassador Dr. Abdelatti for his relentless will of bringing the two countries closer together, stressing: „Your incessant work for German-Egyptian relations made you an expert partner for all key German players. But you will also be remembered by many in Germany as a good friend, who not only had a professional but also a great private fondness for our country.“

The order was awarded to Ambassador Dr. Abdelatti by the Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier in March of this year. The Order of Merit is the only federal decoration of Germany and was created by Theodor Heuss, the first President of the Federal Republic of Germany, in 1951. Since then, it has been awarded to many outstanding Germans and foreigners for their distinguished achievements to the Federal Republic of Germany.
