The German Embassy in Cairo will host a special reception this week to celebrate Egypt’s top Thanaweya Ama students, who will soon embark on the annual „Journey to Germany.“
Organized by Al Gomhouriya newspaper since 1968, the program offers Egypt’s brightest students the opportunity to explore Germany’s culture, history, and society. The German Embassy has long supported the initiative by facilitating visa procedures and hosting a formal ceremony.
This year’s event will take place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in the garden of the Embassy’s Residence. The Chargé d’affaires of the German Embassy, Mr. Andreas Fiedler, will receive the 32 students and 12 journalists from Al Gomhouriya and at this occasion hand back their passports with the necessary German visa for their tour.
Past programs have included visits to Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, the Bundestag (German Federal Parliament), Museum Island, and architectural landmarks such as the central train station built under the project management of Egyptian engineer Hany Azer.
„This event symbolizes the enduring partnership between the German Embassy and Al Gomhouriya, and highlights our shared commitment to supporting Egypt’s most talented young people,“ said Mr. Fiedler.
The ceremony will also feature remarks by Al Gomhouriya’s Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Ahmed Ayoub, and a speech from one of the honored students.
With 57 years of successful cooperation, the Embassy continues to support this tradition, which strengthens the educational, cultural and personal ties between Germany and Egypt.
